Event Reviews: Noted and You Are Here

Earl Grey Editing is taking a bit of a break from book reviewing this week while I recover from my weekend. I spent it attending the You Are Here festival and its literary branch Noted as a volunteer event reviewer for Scissors Paper Pen. A big thank you to Leife Shallcross for bringing the opportunity to my attention and giving me a nudge.

Over the course of the festivals, I attended three events. Art for Our Sake was a workshop run by Belconnen Arts Centre and Big hART Inc. on Community Arts and Cultural Development. (I Hate You) For Sentimental Reasons was a series of talks on the shortcomings of Canberra’s arts scene. I attendedDr Jeanine Leane’s presentation on the lack of opportunities for local Indigenous writers. This lead nicely into my last event, Where the Deadly Words Are, a writing workshop run by a group of Indigenous writers called Us Mob.

The reviews came with some strict deadlines, so I didn’t get to attend any of the other events. I hope next year will be a different story!
